'Il pennello, ci fa sapere Gianfranco Lotti, è un “piccolo pène”, il membro virile. Ma andiamo con ordine, secondo quanto scrive l'Autore, partendo dalla “penicillina”.
Questo farmaco, dunque, viene dall'inglese “penicillin”, nome della sostanza antibiotica che nel 1928 'l'americano Alexander Fleming aveva scoperto nelle culture di “Penicillium”, genere di funghi così 'detti per la forma di microscopici pennelli. Il latino “penicillum”, 'pennello', è un diminutivo di “pene(m)”, 'coda', e metaforicamente “membro virile, pène”. Da un altro diminutivo di “pene(m)” proviene 'pennello'.'
